Perth Royal Show - Murray Grey cross

TULLIBARDINE EXHIBITS TOP STEER

Long time Perth Royal Show exhibitor Alastair Murray has once again had success in the prime steer or heifer competition with an extra-heavyweight Murray Grey cross steer sashed as supreme exhibit of the show.
The steer was judged grand champion trade steer and then beat the grand champion led steer for the supreme title. It was a deserving win for the Murray family who have being showing steers at Perth since the 1970s.
The 566kg steer had been on feed for 120 days, which comprised a Superior Feedlot Minerals Plus ration.
The steer had a P8 fat measurement of 7mm. It was a big year for the Murray family who pretty much dominated the extra-heavyweight section with another of their steers finishing as reserve champion. This steer weighed in at 580kg and finished on 95 points out of 100.
One of the judges, Alec Williams, Elders, said the steer had just about everything.
"He had exceptional muscling complemented with depth of body and a good topline and was very even throughout."

$22,500 RECORD TOP PRICE BULL
Records tumbled at the 2004 Monterey Murray Grey bull sale, when guest vendor Tullibardine Murray Grey stud, Albany, sold a bull for $22,500. At the time it was a record price for a Murray Grey bull sold at auction in WA. The bull Tullibardine Xman was knocked down to Tasmanian Murray Grey breeder John Young, Cam Grove stud, Burnie, with another eastern states buyer Gordon Gill, Lerwick Park Murray Grey stud, Victoria, the losing bidder.

The Tullibardine stud has dominated the annual Mt Barker female breeders sale over the years. The stud still holds the record for commercial PTIC heifers sold at the sale when it sold a line for $1920 in 2002. Repeat clients consistently chase the Tullibardine heifers when they are offered up for sale.
